Cooper named SPJ Region 8 director

ATLANTA -- Scott Cooper was elected Region 8 director for the Society of Professional Journalists at the group's national convention Sept. 4-7, 2008 in Atlanta. Region 8 comprises Oklahoma and Texas SPJ chapters. Cooper, who is a reporter for the Oklahoma Gazette in Oklahoma City, is the immediate past president of the Oklahoma pro chapter of SPJ. He has been a board member since 2000 and continues to serve the chapter as treasurer. "I have greatly enjoyed my years as an SPJ member, not only as an advocate but as a continuing student of the profession," Cooper told The Quill. "I firmly believe in the goals of the organization and want to help advance those goals." Cooper graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a journalism degree. He has worked for the Tulsa World, The Oklahoman and KOMA News Radio. Cooper was an AP/ONE Sweepstakes winner, has won numerous first place awards at the Oklahoma SPJ awards, a Katie Award winner and was a Region 8 SPJ college broadcast winner.
